Avoiding Scams

Information

Because everything that has money in it has scammers, so-called "scammers" who use a variety of methods to steal skins. One of the best known is the so-called "API scam", where they access the victim's profile (usually possible if you are logged into your Steam account on a phishing site) and when you send a trade offer to someone, the scammer changes it in a matter of seconds and sends the items to their own warehouse, however, with a little care and caution this can be avoided if you always check your Steam level and the year you joined Steam. Once the item has been stolen, you can unfortunately only report the scammer on Steam.

Middleman service

A so-called middleman is needed when two parties cannot agree on anything regarding the sale of a skin. So for this service, I take on the role of a third party so that both parties can exchange safely. The buyer sends me the amount promised to the seller and I forward it to the seller as soon as the skin/skin is delivered to the buyer. The service costs 5euros below 260euros and 3% of the selling price above 260euros.

What to do

If they have access to your profile and you see that they are changing the exchange, follow these steps:

  1. Change your password.
  2. Disconnect and log out all devices.
  3. Click on this link to change your api key: (steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey) (Revoke My Steam Web API Key).
  4. There will be a warning window that your old API key won't work, but ignore this and it will only take away the scammer's ability to access your profile.
  5. Check that you have indeed managed to change the father key and password.
  6. If you have successfully completed the steps you should now be able to swap safely, but if they continue to change the swap then start again.

In general, it is recommended to put 3 cents (so to speak worthless items) in exchange, thus enhancing the safe trade (see picture):

Spotting scammers

It may happen that scammers contact you with the same name and profile picture but I will never tag you and ask you for skins, this is the only steam profile I have built for years:
